About this site
Site purpose
I created this site to complement some other great online resources on Arkham LCG. Theses resources can be found on the Gate-box page of this website. I intend to focus the content of the site on a few key aspects.
- Game mechanics exploration and theorizing: Arkham is a complex game with a lot of depth, and tons of mechanics interactions. I would like to present to the reader detailed breakdowns of game mechanics. This section will stay away from the details of specific cards, deck or investigators to offer broad reflections about the game engine. I will not shy await from abstraction, so feel free to skip this section if it is not your cup of tea.
- Arkham Theorised: This in an extension of the previous section, but going deeper into abstraction. The goal is model the game (understand: turn it into numbers) to offer a new perspective on its elements. It might not be to everyone’s liking, so feel free to skip this section if it is not your cup of tea.
- True Solo content: Arkham LCG can be played from 1 to 4 players, yet not much online content is dedicated to True Solo play. Even players that play alone tend to stay away from True Solo and play 2-handed. I personally think that True Solo offers a nice, different experience of Arkham worth for people that love the game to explore. I will post content for player that want to discover this style of play. Expect strategy guides, deck-building examples, maybe even some commented playthroughs.
- Scenarios Analysis: There is excellent content out there for people to prepare for a specific campaign, and even scenario encounter set break-downs. However, in this section, I will take a step-back from campaign play and examine each scenario as a individual puzzle to be solved. This section will cover scenario maps, act requirements, randomness elements, pacing, and much more.
Spoiler policy
This is a fair warning. Every section of the game might contain spoiler for some of the campaigns. I will try to stay away from detailed spoiler in the articles about the game mechanics, and strategy guides, but playthroughs and scenario analysis will contain major spoiler for every campaign and scenario of the game.
I would strongly advise staying away of the Scenario Analysis section if you have not played yet. Theses analysis are written for players that have already done the scenarios a few time and seek to optimize their play for challenge run, restricted-deck constructions, achievement hunting, etc.
About me
My name is Quentin, I am a French in his mid-thirties. I am a scientific by training and engineer by trade.
I was always passionate about strategy games and game design. I played a lot of Civ V & VI, X-COM & X-COM2, as well as some Eugen & Paradox franchise games. As time went by, my interest for board game increased (that allows to enjoy the thrill of gaming in a social context), and I acquired a fairly large collection over the years.
As a young dad, however, I do not have the energy and time to continuously try new games. I do not really enjoy casual play, and repeatedly strategizing about new rulesets is something I cannot do anymore. My gaming time therefore focused on the game I enjoy the most, Arkham LCG.
